KINDNESS TO THE PUBLIC
Aim: To address the disconnect between scientists and the general public by learning new skills to promote effective scientific communication at UWA.

Outline: To be a successful scientist, you must be an effective communicator. With major global scientific issues like climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic at the forefront of public scientific awareness, the large disconnect between the scientific community and the general public makes it hard to work together to tackle these issues head on. We will provide HDR students with the opportunity to learn new skills from skilled scientific communicators on how to effectively communicate science in a way that is clear, concise and simple in order to demystify their research projects and promote the importance of science to the wider community.

Outcome: HDR students will learn why science communication to the wider community is important and learn new skills on how to communicate their science effectively both written and verbally.
