KINDNESS TO YOURSELF
Aim: To promote the importance of mental health and well-being in HDR students and provide workshops and strategies that support self-care and resilience.

Outline: 1 in 3 PhD students are at risk of mental health issues, particularly depression and anxiety. We would like to provide HDR students with resources that will help them to incorporate self-care practices into their routines. We will organise a workshop with psychiatrists from UWA’s Robin Winkler Clinic to learn the importance of self-care and strategies to improve mental health and wellbeing. As UWA’s current yoga program is not accessible for QEII-based students, we will run a series of facilitated yoga classes at the QEII campus that are free for HDR students to attend.

Outcome: Students will be equipped with self-care and mental health management strategies. This will enable them to become better students and scientists by working on their mental health and be advocates for mental health awareness within the scientific community.
